Hosting your Website
Prerequisites:
In order to successfully complete this daily action, you will need:
1. A domain name (already registered)
2. A credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex)
3. An email account to receive your hosting login credentials.
Estimated Time for Completion: 30 – 45 minutes
Details:
If you are not planning on using a third-party developer to develop your website for you then can probably go ahead and host your website yourself. Before you start though, it is important to understand some points about hosting your own website:
1. Most hosting providers will insist that you register or transfer your domain to their preferred registrar as part of the set-up process. This is NOT required and is simply a way for them to ensure that you stay a customer with them. It is much easier to keep you as a hosting customer if transferring your domain to another hosting provider is difficult for you.
2. Most hosting providers will provide you with email support. This is okay, but I recommend you use Gmail’s business apps to manage your email. I will talk about this in an upcoming daily action.
3. For a basic website, one where you are only hosting a few pages of content, you will probably only need the basic hosting package. I would recommend that you make sure that the package support Wordpress (a very popular blogging and content management platform). Many hosting providers will explicitly state this, so just make sure they do.
4. If you plan on having the booking engine on your site (instead of using a third party booking engine) then you may need a secure certificate. If you need a secure certificate, you may have to go with a larger package. A secure certificate will cost you about $99/year, so make sure that the upgrade package you choose is around this range. If you are unsure about whether or not you will need a secure certificate, make sure you can upgrade your account later to include one.
5. You may be presented with either Shared hosting, managed hosting or co-located hosting. For the purposes of a basic website (i.e. one that includes content management and a booking engine) you will probably be fine with a shared hosting account.
6. Consider where you are located and where your customers are located and pick a server closer to your customers. For example, if you are located in Europe but your customers are primarily located in the U.S. and Canada, you may want to consider getting a web host in North America. Just remember that if you are in Europe, you may be restricted to using a host that is not located in the U.S. because of E.U. privacy regulations.
Once you have gone through all these considerations and you are ready to go, I recommend you visit one of these web hosts to set-up a hosting account:
* Bluehost.com
* FatCow Web Hosting
* SuperGreenHosting.com
* 1and1.com
* HostGator.com
* Streamline.net (UK)
Outcome:
If you are successful at completing this daily action, you will have set-up a hosting account for your website.

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based sales technique used by companies to expand their reach into the internet at low costs. This commission based program allows affiliate marketers to place ads on their websites or other advertising efforts such as email distribution in exchange for payment of a small commission when a sale results.
